StudentMenu
DRAFT — for review by a qualified solicitor before publishing. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
Student Terms & Conditions
These terms are an agreement between you and StudentMenu Ltd ("StudentMenu", "we"), a company registered in England and Wales. By creating an account or using the StudentMenu app, card or website (the "Platform") you agree to them. StudentMenu is free for students.
1.Who can use StudentMenu
- You must be a current student at a UK university or college, able to verify with your institutional (.ac.uk) email and, where asked, your student ID.
- You must give accurate information and keep it up to date. One account per person.
- When you stop being a student, your access to student discounts ends, though we may keep your account open for you.
2.Your account and your identity
- Your account, card and codes are personal to you. Don't share your login, lend your card, or let anyone else redeem as you.
- Never adopt a false identity or misrepresent your student status. Restaurants may ask to see ID at the till and may refuse a redemption where identity is in doubt. You are responsible for any charges you incur through misuse of the Platform or use of a false identity.
3.Discounts, points and codes
- Offers, prices and menus are set by each restaurant, can change or end at any time, and are redeemed in person at the till. You pay the restaurant directly; StudentMenu never takes your payment.
- PLUS+ points have no cash value, cannot be sold or transferred, are specific to the restaurant that issued them, and may be adjusted or expire — for example when an offer is set up incorrectly, when points were awarded in error, or after long inactivity.
- Group and society codes belong to the society or group they were issued to and work only during their stated window. A society's code applies to members who genuinely attend; committees are responsible for how their code is shared. Restaurants and StudentMenu may withdraw a code at any time.
- Offers cannot be combined unless the restaurant says so, and a discount applies only to the items it covers.
4.Restaurants are independent businesses
- StudentMenu is a platform, not a restaurant. The food, drink, service, hygiene and allergen information are the responsibility of each restaurant. Always tell the restaurant about allergies before ordering — menu data on the Platform may be incomplete or out of date.
- Any dispute about food, service or refunds is between you and the restaurant, though we'll help where we reasonably can. Your statutory consumer rights against the restaurant are unaffected.
5.Acceptable use
- Don't exploit bugs, loopholes or promotion mechanics; don't redeem an offer more times than intended; don't manipulate points, codes or group features; don't harass staff or other users; don't use the Platform for anything unlawful.
- We may suspend or close accounts, reverse points and cancel redemptions where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken, and restaurants may refuse service to anyone abusing the Platform.
6.The service, and our liability
- We work hard to keep the Platform accurate and available, but it is provided "as is" — we can't guarantee an offer will always be honoured, a venue will be open, or the service will be uninterrupted.
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be excluded by law — and nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
- Subject to that, we are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, losses caused by a restaurant, or losses arising from your breach of these terms.
7.Your data
We handle your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy — verification details are used to confirm student status, and restaurants see only what's needed to serve you (for example first names and order contents at hand-over). We never sell your data.
8.Changes, closing your account, and the law
We may update these terms and will give reasonable notice of material changes; continuing to use the Platform after notice means you accept them. You can close your account at any time in Settings. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes belong to the courts of England and Wales (or your local UK courts where consumer law gives you that right).
